The Application of Discipline

A miniature environmental sculpture commissioned by Temple University that was created to be home to a hive of bees in the university gallery, Temple Contemporary. The challenge of creating a work of art that caters to the needs of living creatures was considerable. I worked closely with the gallery's curator, preparator, and even a beekeeper. The bees come and go through a tube that connects the vitrine with the outside world. A sugar water supply, concealed in the shed-like structure atop the work, supplies the bees with food during inclement weather.
